"Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable." Fred Rogers

Step One: A Free 20-Minute Consultation

I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation so we can briefly talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping to gain, and whether I feel I’m the right therapist for your needs. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and get a sense of how I work, with no obligation to continue.

Step Two: Your First Session

Our first full session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We’ll explore what’s brought you to therapy, begin to understand your experiences, and discuss what you’d like life to look like as therapy progresses.

Just as importantly, this session allows us both to decide whether we feel we’re a good fit. Research consistently shows that the relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy, so it’s important that you feel comfortable, understood and able to be yourself.

There is no pressure to have everything figured out before you arrive. We’ll work together to make sense of things at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Step Three: Ongoing Therapy

If we decide to continue working together, sessions usually take place weekly at first. Therapy is a collaborative process rather than something that is done to you. I’ll bring my professional knowledge, experience and curiosity, while you bring your unique experiences, strengths and willingness to explore. Together we’ll look not only at what’s happening in your life now, but also at the patterns, beliefs and experiences that may be keeping you stuck.

My approach is relational, compassionate and change-focused. I believe meaningful change happens when you feel safe enough to be honest, challenged enough to grow, and supported enough to try something different. Alongside understanding your past, we’ll focus on helping you make lasting changes in the present so that life feels different outside of the therapy room.

Step Four: Regular Reviews

Around every six weeks, we’ll pause to review how therapy is progressing. We’ll reflect on what’s changed, what’s still feeling difficult, whether your goals have evolved, and what you need from therapy moving forward.

These reviews help ensure that therapy remains purposeful, collaborative and tailored to your needs. As you begin to feel stronger and more confident, we can also discuss reducing the frequency of sessions or planning a thoughtful ending, so that you leave therapy feeling equipped to continue your journey independently.

Whether you choose to meet online or in person, the therapeutic relationship remains at the heart of the work. Research consistently shows that online therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face counselling for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma and relationship difficulties. What matters most is that you feel comfortable, safe and able to connect.

Online therapy offers flexibility and convenience. You can access therapy from the comfort of your own home, avoid travel time, and fit sessions more easily around work, family and other commitments. Many people also find it easier to open up when they are in a familiar environment.

In-person therapy provides a dedicated, private space away from the distractions of everyday life. Some clients value being physically present in the therapy room and appreciate having a place that is solely for their therapeutic work.

Whichever option you choose, you’ll receive the same thoughtful, collaborative and change-focused approach. Together, we’ll create a space where you can explore what’s happening, understand yourself more deeply, and make meaningful, lasting changes.
